More about the encoding selection

The Encoding screen

In the encoding section are a range of different encodings.

When connecting to a Mac using the in-built Mac Remote VNC then only either Zlib or Hex encoding is currently available. On a PC or Mac with a third party VNC server other encodings are available. If possible we recommend using ZRLE connecting to either UltraVNC on a PC or Vine VNC on a Mac.

If your VNC server does not support the encoding you choose this is not normally a problem since it will choose the next best from the above list in the order they appear above. But there may be some servers where connection will fail if you select a type not supported - if this happens then you need to use whichever of the above encodings is supported by the VNC server concerned - always choose the first compatible encoding from the above list except that we recommend ZRLE rather than Tight.

Simply touch on the encoding required to select.
